About Me

My journalism experience began at Long Beach City College in 2007, where I served in multiple roles on the LBCC Viking staff for three years, including reporter and editor-in-chief. I was also the editor of City Magazine and contributed several feature stories. In addition, I gained experience in photography, layout and design. While in school, I attended a conference where my work was recognized by the Journalism Association of Community Colleges, earning second place for critical review and third place for feature writing in 2008.

Right before I left LBCC, I landed an internship at the Long Beach Post, where I covered arts, entertainment and the vibrant Long Beach music scene. That role helped me realize journalism’s power to connect the community through storytelling and to share my unique perspective as a resident, student and musician.

After taking a break to start a family and pursue other professional interests, I joined the Coastline College Marketing Department. There, I maintained the college’s blog, produced student and staff newsletters, helped plan and execute college events, managed social media accounts and continued building my skills in photography. During that time, I also earned an associate degree in communications.

Currently, I am at Cal State Long Beach with the goal of completing my journalism degree. Although I have taken many detours, my passion for writing has never gone away. Returning as an older student can be intimidating and has many challenges, but I am excited for my future.

Amelia Earhart once said, “The most difficult thing is the decision to act; the rest is merely tenacity.”

Everything I do is for my family.

“You can make anything by writing.”
